NEW HAVEN POLICE ISSUE MORE THAN 70 CITATIONS DURING MOTOR VEHICLE ENFORCEMENT INITIATIVE FOCUSED ON COMMERCIAL TRUCK VIOLATIONS
(5/19/2009) NEW HAVEN- This morning, the Traffic Enforcement Unit of the New Haven Police Department in collaboration with the State Police Truck Squad conducted a joint investigation on Commercial Trucks violations in New Haven. At approximately 7:30 a.m., Police units set up at the intersection of Water Street and East Street. Within the first 2 hours of the operation, more than 70 commercial trucks were stopped and issued citations for numerous violations to include the following:
-Failure to Display Marker
-Failure to Display tax I.D. Marker.
-Cell Phone
-Seat belt
-Failure to carry medical card (commercial truck operator)
-Operating Unregistered M.V.
There were 15 complete inspections done which also resulted in 22 Federal violations, several infractions and 13 charges with fines in excess of $1,099.
There were several trucks to include Cabs & Trailers that were immediately taken out of service due to defective equipment, unsafe loads and a host of other violations. Two drivers were also taken out of service for operating out of driver classification.
